Project Engineer

The primary purpose of the Project Engineer is to assist the Project Manager and Superintendent to ensure successful completion of a job. The Project Engineer reports to the Project Manager and/or Superintendent, as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct themselves in alignment with the Downing Core Values
  • Serve as Downing liaison to clients, subcontractors and vendors
  • Prepare meeting documentation
  • Attend regular OAC and job meetings
  • Draft and distribute meeting minutes when assigned
  • Proactively solve design, scope, and field issues
  • Assist in obtaining contract drawings, specifications, and other pertinent information necessary for the completion of the project with distribution to the project manager, superintendent, material suppliers and subcontractors as needed
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Take offs and planning
  • Become familiar with contract documents
  • Become familiar with the project schedule and assist with setup and updating as requested
  • Request, receive and tabulate bids as directed
  • Assist the project manager with accounting responsibilities when assigned
  • Understand the shop drawing submittal and approval process
  • Handle assigned submittals through review approval, and distribution
  • Ensure project files are always complete as directed
  • Maintain record set of contract documents as directed
  • Communicate effectively with management staff, company project staff, vendors, contractors, and project owners on documentation issues related to the project
  • Assist project management team members in bidding, close out, and other processes by efficiently managing forms, paperwork, and providing timely and effective communication to internal staff and external customers and subcontractors.
  • Obtain all close out information and documentation in a timely manner to ensure efficient completion of the closeout process
  • Coordinate work schedule and work load with direct supervisor•Use written and verbal communication effectively
  • Remain calm and professional during peak periods of activities
  • Comply with all work-related deadlines

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in construction management or construction engineering preferred
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Suite
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Team focused with initiative to work individually
